Rector
All Saints' Episcopal Church
Position: Rector
Location: Cayce, SC
All Saints’ Episcopal Church Cayce, SC is seeking a Rector to lead this vibrant, intergenerational parish in the growing community 12 minutes from the heart of downtown Columbia, SC.
THE CANDIDATE
The candidate we look forward to welcoming should bring a strong and connective love for God and God’s people, the desire to share in beautiful liturgy offered to God with an understanding and acceptance that the work we do both spiritually and ministerially requires shared participation between clergy and lay people. The candidate should also appreciate a mid-century modern history and pursuit of forward looking dreams.
As Rector, the successful candidate will be a warm, grounded, spirit-filled priest, skilled in pastoral care. We are seeking someone who can continue to usher us into the 21st century in both mission of living and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This person would be a skillful preacher with love of liturgy, spiritual guidance, and Christian formation.
We are willing to consider a candidate who is three-quarter time or bi-vocational.
A PEEK AT THE PARISH
All Saints’ Cayce was begun in the middle 1950s by a seed gift from St. Martin’s-in-the Fields after a need was identified for an Episcopal church in West Columbia. We celebrated our 60th anniversary in 2019. The first stained-glass windows were installed in the early 1990s. Our latest project, the All Saints’ Pollinator Garden is representative of our strong commitment to Creation Care.
All Saints’ remains a determined force. Even with our small numbers, we sustain liturgy and music that is planned and dignified. Five teams meet regularly to serve as good stewards: Facilities, Spiritual Life, Christian Formation, Stewardship, and Parish Life. We support local ministries with small financial donations as well as in-kind goodies. Three of our teens attended the Episcopal Youth Event of the national church in 2023. Our representation at Diocesan events is strong. Seven individuals were confirmed or received this May during Bishop Richards’ visit in May 2023.
All Saints’ embraces diversity, and we welcome people from all walks of life while supporting one another. We completed the Sacred Ground program in 2022. We learned how to be better followers of Christ and aware of other groups in our community. There are many instances of the parish reaching out to parishioners who may be sick, losing the capability to live on their own, or in any type of crisis. When conflict arises, we handle it thoughtfully, in confidence and with a prayerful approach. We delight in our young people and seek to support and guide them in finding opportunities for their growth in the life of Christ.
Our music ministry is led by our choir director and organist. We sing and enjoy classical and customary Anglican selections with a sprinkle of contemporary hymns occasionally. Our congregation appreciates the special arrangements our choir shares each Sunday.
In July, we honor the talent of the great Johann Sebastian Bach with a Sunday full of his compositions. Each year in the fall, we gather in the garden to celebrate Music in the Garden, a chance for other parishioners with musical talents to share their gifts and fundraise for our youth music scholarship program. Another ministry within All Saints’ is our handbells who ring with joy and gladness monthly.
In July of 2023, we have closed a dozen years of successful shared leadership and collaboration with our retired rector. We are mindful that God has richly blessed us, both as individuals and as a community. We look forward to continuing the work of the Kingdom with new leadership, rooted in the Bible and our Episcopal traditions.
