Bexley Seabury Announces Leadership Transition

Rev. Dr. Micah T.J. Jackson to Conclude Tenure as President; Rev. Dr. Jason Fout Appointed Acting President

Chicago, IL, January 13, 2024 — Bexley Seabury Seminary announces that the Rev. Dr. Micah T.J. Jackson, who has faithfully served as President for the past seven years, will conclude his tenure effective January 13, 2025.

Under Dr. Jackson’s leadership, Bexley Seabury experienced significant growth and transformation. His visionary approach expanded the seminary’s mission and deepened its commitment to theological education for all orders of ministry. Notable achievements during his tenure include:

  • Forty-eight dioceses were represented in the seminary’s student body during the 2023–2024 academic year.

  • Partnering with the Episcopal Church’s Office of Indigenous Ministries to launch the Mentor-Assessed Master of Divinity Program.

  • Introducing the Pathways program and new certificate programs to enrich theological education.

The Rev. Dr. Jason Fout, a long-serving faculty member with 16 years of dedicated service, has been appointed Acting President. As Academic Dean, Dr. Fout has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the seminary’s mission and values, ensuring strong and steady leadership during this transitional period.

The Board of Directors has partnered with an executive recruitment firm to conduct a nationwide search for the next president of Bexley Seabury.

“The board remains committed to Bexley Seabury’s innovative model of distributed learning that meets our students where they are in their lives and journeys of faith,” said The Rt. Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Sparks, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Together, we will continue to educate, form, and inspire the body of Christ to blaze new journeys of prophetic and pastoral service in response to God’s call.”

Bexley Seabury will host conversations in the coming weeks with students, faculty, staff, and community members to discuss the seminary’s vision for the future.

The seminary expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jackson for his impactful leadership and invites the community to join in celebrating his legacy as he embarks on his next chapter.
