Bexley Seabury Establishes Indigenous Advisory Council

by The Reverend Canon Dr. Bradley Hauff (Oglala Sioux) Seabury-Western Class of 1990

After retiring as TEC’s Missioner for Indigenous Ministries in March, I joined Bexley Seabury as liaison for Indigenous academic curriculum and program development. I am honored to be part of the seminary’s continued commitment to Indigenous theological education, which dates to the 19th century at Seabury Divinity School in Minnesota.

Maintaining an authentic and long-term theological education program for Indigenous students necessitates close relationships with Indigenous people in the grass roots. Accordingly, we have established an advisory council comprised of Indigenous church leaders and elders, as well as non-Indigenous clergy with substantial experience serving within Indigenous communities, for this purpose. In June of this year, we assembled such an advisory council and had our first in-person meeting in Minneapolis. This council will have a direct line of communication with Indigenous students and the Bexley Seabury faculty, administration, and Board of Directors, regarding the seminary’s Indigenous programming.

Bexley Seabury's Indigenous Advisory Council holds their first meeting in Minneapolis in June, 2025.

This is an exciting time for Bexley Seabury as we move forward to building and expanding Indigenous theological education and training in ways that no other Episcopal seminary has done. We invite you to join us in supporting this important commitment.
