IN MEMORIAM: Thomas G. Smith, Seabury-Western ‘73

 

The Rev. Thomas G. Smith, Seabury-Western Class of 1973, US Army Veteran and resident of Elk Grove Village, IL for 54 years passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025. He was born April 5, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Ralph and Frances (née Dum) Smith. Loving husband to the late Hope Ann Smith (nee Bell) for 50 years and the late Helen Jean Fitzpatrick. Caring father to Patricia Smith, Thomas F. (Pauline) Smith and Jennifer (David) Hentrich. Devoted and proud grandfather to Branden Hentrich, Ryan Hentrich, Zoe Huntoon, Mason Smith and Katherine Smith. Dear brother to Carolyn (Jerry) Crawner and Susan (Ken) Parks.

Thomas devoted his life to service, acting as a Deacon at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Elk Grove Village from 1974 to 2004 and Calvary Episcopal Church in Lombard from 2005 to 2013. He also served as Chaplain for both the Village of Elk Grove and Alexian Brothers Hospital and spent time tutoring children in District 59. Professionally, Thomas worked as a Federal Tax Manager for Beatrice Foods and was a certified public accountant (CPA). 

Visitation was held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, Elk Grove Village, IL. Lying in State Saturday, November 15, 2025 until time Funeral Mass at Calvary Episcopal Church, 105 W. Maple Street, Lombard IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Nicholas Church in Elk Grove Village, Calvary Episcopal Church in Lombard, or the Alzheimer’s Association, in Thomas’ honor.
