St. John’s Episcopal Church, Georgetown seeks a joyful, imaginative, and relational Associate Rector to help lead a vibrant parish where creativity, connection, and spiritual depth shape our common life. Working closely with the Rector and staff, the Associate Rector will help cultivate a community rooted in meaningful worship, shared ministry, and courageous engagement with the world.

About the Role
The Associate Rector shares fully in the worship, pastoral, and leadership life of the parish, with particular emphasis on congregational vitality, creative Christian formation, and parish integration. This role thrives on collaboration - with clergy, staff, and lay leaders - and supports a culture where all members are empowered to live into their baptismal calling with imagination and purpose.
Key Areas of Ministry
Congregational Vitality & Parish Life
• Inspire and strengthen parish engagement by empowering lay leadership and nurturing shared ministry
• Support and grow small groups that foster authentic connection, spiritual curiosity, and joyful community
• Assist in leading the parish’s stewardship ministry, cultivating a year-round culture of generous, grateful living
• Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to build practices of welcome, belonging, and radical hospitality
Christian Formation
• Envision, lead, and develop creative formation programs for all ages that invite people into deeper faith and spiritual exploration
• Oversee adult education, Bible studies, forums, and sacramental preparation with an eye toward accessibility, imagination, and theological depth
• Partner with staff and lay leaders to design offerings that meet people where they are and spark meaningful engagement
Worship & Music
• Share in preaching, presiding, and all sacramental ministries
• Recruit, train, and support lay liturgical leaders
• Collaborate with the Director of Music to expand worship offerings, including multicultural and innovative liturgical expressions
• Serve as clergy liaison for the parish’s international concert series, helping connect worship, music, and community life
Leadership & Governance
• Assist with day-to-day parish operations
• Participate in Vestry meetings as appropriate
• Engage in long-range visioning and strategic planning with the Rector
Community Engagement
• Serve as clergy liaison to particular parish communities or ministries - especially young adults and social justice initiatives - based on gifts and parish needs
• Help cultivate partnerships and outreach efforts that reflect our commitment to justice, compassion, and faithful presence in the wider community
Qualifications
• Ordained priest/Transitional deacon in good standing within The Episcopal Church or a church in full communion
• Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent degree
• Typically, 1 -3 years of parish experience with demonstrated collaborative and creative leadership
• Strong communication skills (preaching and writing)
• Emotional, pastoral, and organizational maturity suited to dynamic parish life
